24 Hours in Edinburgh

Hi all,

I had the opportunity to spend 24 hours in Edinburgh on my way back from Europe this Summer and let me tell you: I think I fell in love with the city! With its historic architecture, great food and welcoming people, I definitely will be coming back to see more. With only 24 hours, I had to be nimble and efficient, so I was on the move to visit landmarks such as the Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat, and walk Victoria St. Let's take a look!

Edinburgh Castle

No matter if you have 24 hours or 24 days, you have to make it to Edinbrugh Castle. The sheer amount of history should make it an auto-include in any itinerary. To think that Mary Queen of Scots walked the castle and gave birth there is one of those things that are hard to describe. The visit includes a stop to view the royal jewels, the cathedral and important rooms where royals once lived. Plus, it offers you an amazing view of the city - not to mention it's super picture-friendly.

Arthur's Seat

Located a short walk or cab ride away from the city, Arthur's Seat is a grassy hill that overlooks the entire city of Edinburgh and beyond. It's a great walk or hike, though I'd recommend you bring a pair of sneakers and NOT the shoes you see me wearing here. You'll see a mix of locals and visitors here, hiking and taking a bit of nature in with panoramic views to boot.

Recommended Stops in Edinburgh

I took some time to walk the city a bit. Walked down Victoria St which is lined with pubs and restaurants and I happened to have been there during a beer festival, so there were hundreds of locals lining up for music and beer. Naturally we joined in and entered what is the alleged oldest bar in Edinburgh - the White Hart Inn pub, founded in 1516. Enjoyed local beer and some tatties!

Did you know Victoria St it was used as inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter? Now, you do!

Next up, I went to George St where we stopped for a drink at Tigerlily and some bites at Andaluz, both excellent places and I certainly recommend a stop there. Tigerlily had a great vibe and even better drinks for happy hour while Andaluz was a really good Spanish tapas restaurant.

The Stay

I stayed at the G&V Royal Mile and would recommend you to stay there as well. The overall decor and vibe of the hotel suggested a modern take on history. Perfectly located 5 minutes away from Edinbrugh Castle and Victoria St, it's the perfect hotel for those without a long stay in the city who need efficient travel. The hotel does have restaurants and bars for you to take advantage of as well. But you know what I loved the most out of the hotel? The bed. It was the comfiest ever! I passed out like a baby.

Have you been to Edinburgh? Are you planning a stay? Let me know your experience in the city in the comments below!

As always, thank you for reading!

xoxo,

Christie
