NYFW Day 1 - Animal Print + Tie-Dye?

Hi all,

Welcome to a new edition of NYFW! Super excited about the start of another Fashion Month - a time to dress up, meet up with colleagues you haven’t seen in some time and witness some breathtaking collections. New York Fashion Week is always a nerve-wrecking experience too, between the photographers, press and everything, it becomes an immediate test of your styling, so you have to develop a thick skin and bring your A-Game! So, let’s go into look #1, which features fun animal print and tie-dye - yup, you heard that right!

Animal Print Trend

We’ve spoken before about how animal print was having a huge moment this past Fall, and it continues through Winter and into Spring. I stumbled onto this coat from new contemporary designer Stand and fell in love with it, so I knew I wanted to make it a centerpiece of an outfit. Plus, it’s not astronomically priced either. This faux snakeskin coat is clearly a big statement, and can - or maybe even should - be paired with neutrals, like white, black and gray. However, this is NYFW, so out went the conventional and in went…. tie-dye?

Tie-Dye Trend

No, you don’t need to check your eyes! Tie-dye is coming back this Spring & Summer with force. I’ll be putting together a trend guide later in March to speak to upcoming trends, like I did for Fall & Winter, so stay tuned for that. But know: tie-dye is back baby! This tie dye shirt is from Proenza Schouler, who is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

These two prints clearly are loud, but I think they work nicely together and that’s because when you’re going tow ear two different prints, my recommendation is to make sure they both have the same color palette. In this case, both had white, blue and black.

To finish off the look, I went a bit simpler, given that I had two loud prints. I added a white turtleneck, and white, pointed-toe booties. For jeans, I grabbed this cool pair and yes, that cuff at the bottom is part of the design! The last addition to the look? This fun, acrylic bag.

Christie
