The Shift Dress: The Perfect Dress for Every Woman

Hi all,

I've been very much into dresses as of late because.. well.. it's Summer and today is the first day of June! The temperatures here in the Northeast of the US might not quite feel like Summer, but we're getting close. so that's enough for me to start dressing the part. And one of my favorite types of dresses are shift dresses. For today's post, we're talking shift dresses, and in particular, this one from Lafayette 148 NY.

Why I Love a Good Shift Dress

Shift dresses are one of those pieces that look great on everyone. Thanks to its free flowing shape and length, a shift dress looks amazing on every body type. Plus, they're a great investment because they're a classic and will be wearable any day of the week, to many settings. This alone makes shift dresses a must-have for any wardrobe.

My shopping advice with anything has always been the same: can you see yourself wearing the item you're considering 3 different ways? A dress like this one most certainly can, and that's important.  But here's a simple reason too: it's so simple, it's the perfect to dress to throw on when you don't quite know what to wear, yet it'll have you looking chic out the door.

Styling Your New Shift Dress

For work: It's a perfect dress for work because it leans on the conservative side - not too short and cleavage is free from sight. Pair with a shoulder bag or satchel, closed toe pumps, and a cardigan or blazer to fight off the AC.

For date night: Edge it up a bit. Consider pairing the shift dress with a leather jacket and great heeled sandal.

On vacation: Add fun statement pieces, because why not? You're on vacation.  Go for some fun heeled sandals. Love these not only for the color and design but adore the thick block heel . It makes it easier/more comfortable to walk longer distances while exploring the town. Then grab a fun yellow clutch, like I do here.
