Two Big 2017 Trends: Velvet & Sequins

Hello all,

First of all, I want to wish you all a very happy new year! Hopefully you're set on your 2017 resolutions. I sincerely wish you all a very happy, healthy and fun year.

Today, we've enlisted the help of Mark and Spencer to talk about two big trends for 2017:Velvet and Sequin. Let's dive right in:

Velvet Trend for 2017

Velvet was big in 2016 and I foresee this continuing into 2017 as well. From dresses to pants, to blazers and bodysuits - not to mention shoes - velvet will be hard to avoid in 2017, in particular now during the winter. Personally, I love how velvet instantly screams luxe but it is not necessarily expensive.

This first look incorporates yet another trend along with velvet -  the pant suit available right now. You might have seen in the past a similar matching suit, but this time I opted for a mismatching set from Marks & Spencer for unexpected added fun. It might not be for everyone, but fret not: These pieces are available with their matching tops and bottoms as well.

When I wear pants suits, I love wearing a blazer open when paired with wide legged trousers to add some structure to the look. Finish the look with your go-to pair of booties. For me, I love me some pointed toe shoes to give the illusion of longer legs and taller figure. Yup, I'm not that tall :)

Sequins Trend for 2017

Sequins are undergoing a major comeback, so be on the look out for more of it soon! But for this look, I decided to pair this fabulous sequin jacket also from Marks & Spencer with a pair of denim - kept it simple. To finish off the look, I chose a pointed shoe and a neutral bag. This jacket can also be styled with a pair of strappy sandals, in particular in warmer weather. For a more casual day look, consider some fun combat boots. Yup, you read that right: sequin can be used for day time activities too!

You have to remember though that sequins are a (big) statement. So it's imperative you keep the rest of your look very minimal and stick to neutrals. If you want to add some color, try red or blue but reserve it for the bag.

As always, thank you for reading and happy new year!

xoxo,
