Your Guide to a Stylish Holiday

Hi all,

Today's blog post was first posted on TheOutfit.com and features looks that appeared on People StyleWatch's December & January issue in which you not only see me, but my pup too! What? You haven't picked it up! Go, go now after you read this post!!

We're going to talk about what to wear for certain events and functions. Everyone has that work party, that fun family dinner and that - hopefully -  a fun date planned so what should you wear? How do you style it? Let's look:

Work

Need a gift for a work function? This can be tricky! I always look for something for the home, like a great smelling candle or, if it's a guy, a nice pen or a bottle of scotch.

As for what to wear, just because we have to keep it more conservative at work doesn't mean you have to wear something boring. This outfit is a great option for your holiday work function. It's stylish but isn't sexy. To recreate it, start with your favorite black skirt. This one is from Chelsea & Walker and it adds a fun take that works great with your boots. Yup, I said boots. Add your go-to knee-high boots—they look stylish but also add a more covered up feel to your look.

For the top, reach for your favorite black blouse—a monochromatic look is easy and always chic. Now, since December tends to be quite cold, you will have to add a coat and a white one will do absolute wonders. I love this one from Lafayette 148 New York. For a finishing touch, I always add a pop of red to my holiday outfit. This bag pops perfectly against my black and white look.

Out With Friends

When I am shopping for presents for my friends, I usually go for clothes because most of them love fashion. One great idea, is to gift them a great dress that can be worn year-round. Check out some incredibly chic options at Laundry by Shelli Segal.

If you're doing a holiday outing with your friends, try going for an extra chic look. You can never go wrong with a slim-fit turtleneck in red or crimson. This will be the centerpiece of your look. Now, you need to add some complementary items.

For below the waist, keep it simple. Grab your favorite skinny jeans and add a pair of pumps. I like these from Pour La Victoire—the faux fur details is so fun.

Next, grab your favorite leather jacket—a must-have in New York! Anything leather, faux or real, will work perfectly. Finish off the look with a black leather purse and you're good to go!

A Date

What to gift your man? This year I'm thinking a great pair of trousers—like these from Dockers— will be a good gift. Another idea? Go for an experience, like a cooking class or basketball game.

As for a holiday date and what to wear, you want to dress the part! At the same time, you want to look fresh and cool. Instead of a dress, consider a tuxedo-inspired suit. This velvet suit is one of my staples for the holiday season. The "V" in the front allows you to either go conservative and add a shirt underneath or opt for some extra cleavage. Regardless, you'll make quite the entrance with one of these and your significant other will love you for it. Because the suit is loud and the centerpiece, it's important to keep the rest of your look simple. For shoes, go for your favorite black booties or pumps. Grab your favorite black clutch and you're good to go!

Home With Family

Shopping for your sister? I love the idea of gifting a cute and cozy sleepwear set like this one from Nordstrom Rack.

On to what to wear! The biggest priority is being comfortable—but that doesn't mean you have to go for sweatpants!

First, grab your favorite neutral turtleneck. We all have some in our closet because of their comfort and warmth, right? Next, add your favorite pair of jeans. For shoes, brown over-the-knee boots look chic but are cozy. If you need some extra warmth, consider a sleeveless waist coat like the one pictured here from Lafayette 148 New York. It's so warm! Like before, we want to add some red, so grab your favorite red clutch or purse.

As always, thank you for reading!

xoxo,

Christie
