How to Set Up Routines for Your Baby

Hi all,

Excited to share with you a new #DrCsTips article and today we’re tackling routines in partnership with Philips Avent. This is one of the tactics that will help both you and the baby so continue reading to find out why following your baby's natural rhythm is beneficial, and how the Soothie snuggle from Philips helps with Oliver’s routine! They just launched 2 characters too, a Koala and Sloth!

Settings routines with your baby

Newborns often call the shots when it comes to eating and sleeping but when they’re a few months older, routines can be put into place. Why?

Routines (not to be confused with schedules) follow an order. Babies thrive off routines because they offer more flexibility in the day and because there’s no time component. Instead, I follow Oliver’s natural rhythms and cues as to when it’s time to eat (i.e., licking lips, opening mouth) and sleep (i.e., yawning, rubbing eyes).

Routines help babies know what to expect and make them feel safe. They also help babies know when it’s time to sleep, eat, or play.

His Philips Avent Soothie snuggle is always there to help, too! It’s a cuddly, soft plush toy with a detachable Soothie (easy cleaning) that keeps him calm.

We incorporate his Soothie snuggle into each activity of the day because it serves as a transitional object for him. Transitional objects are great because they provide consistency throughout the day, as we transition into new steps of a routine. They can also offer reassurance, comfort, and emotional support. Essentially transitional objects can helps babies feel safe.
