A Modern Fall Outfit With A Scholarly Touch

Hi all,

Excited to share with you today details on this look - a cute and easy-to-style fall outfit that includes a super cozy cardigan, staple flared denim and brown booties! So let’s dive right in and see how this look came together and why this look can offer a calming effect while adding a scholarly, yet fun touch!

Easy Fall Look

The outfit is of course centered around this gorgeous - and very comfy and soft - cardigan from Inhabit. I’ve linked a few similars below, too). Most of us normally would wear a piece like this one opened up, but today I wanted to add a little twist to it and belted it (with this belt. Here’s a similar belt too). This long gray cardigan is an excellent basic - it can be layered on top of almost any look to be worn out or around the house. In the colder months, you can add a turtleneck underneath and still be comfy and warm.

The flared jeans are in for Fall and they’re great for those with wider hips. Why? Well, the bottom of the jeans tend to help balance out the hips as opposed to a skinny jean, for example. The brown booties were a great find - can you believe they’re $50? They run true to size and are comfortable to walk in. All in all, a great, classic and every day bootie for $50!

I’m a big fan also of these sunglasses -they’re Prada and are super flattering on many face types. If you’re looking for a more affordable option, I also found a great similar pair (linked above).

A Modern Fall Outfit With A Scholarly Touch

The outfit itself is easy to put together which can alleviate any stress in deciding what to wear. At the end of the day, we’re talking a good pair of jeans, and a comfy cardigan on top. But there are two things in particular that make this outfit special: First, we look at the color of the cardigan. Gray is a soothing color and can have a calming effect on the wearer.

But cardigans can be considered to be scholarly. And why is that? Well they’re typically part of a preppy school uniform and a professor’s wardrobe choice. Professors want to be approachable to their students, and dressing like their students can help them achieve that, as opposed to dressing like the school administration in a suit. I mean there’s something to be said about cardigans when even Mr. Rogers changed from his suit jacket into a cardigan when he arrived at home.

So when should you wear your cardigan like I do here?

Well this cardigan is definitely “not your grandmother’s sweater,” as I styled it as a shirt and added a belt to help accentuate my waist, as opposed to a more conservative way. I  suppose this look might be better off for a more informal day where you want to appear scholarly while still looking trendy and feminine, perhaps even on a date night.

Let me know what you think this outfit says to you and how you’d be styling it down in the comments below!

xo,
