How To Style Off The Shoulder Tops

See this content in the original post

Hi all,

Thank you for stopping by today! Off-the-shoulder tops are having a major moment right now! So let's take a few minutes here to talk about the off-the-shoulder trend, how to style it and where to get some cool tops.

Why Wear Off-The-Shoulder

Why not? Is there a better or cuter way to incorporate a statement piece while beating the summer heat and adding a bit of sexiness all at the same time? Off-The-Shoulder is a perfect choice for summer regardless of the occasion. Many brands and retailers are getting super creative with the trend too: Full sleeves, adding thin shoulder straps, draping sleeves- like the one I'm wearing, all add up to different fun ways of wearing the off-the-shoulder this summer.

Today's look is all about this black off-the-shoulder from State of Being. The draping sleeves add an extra bit of fun and the perfect top for a weekend brunch. I decided to pair it with black denim shorts, for an all-black look and my new go-to platform sneakers. One of the beauties of off-the-shoulder pieces is versatility. The only place where they don't quite belong is the office, as it's usually a more conservative environment. But otherwise, whether it be brunch, dinner or out with friends, you'll be comfortable, chic and sexy. Oh and it also shows off your slimmest feature, the collar bone!

How to Style The Off-The-Shoulder Trend

Its versatility is one of its strengths, so there are many ways to style it. Let's take a look:

For the bottom half, you can't go wrong with wide-legged pants, midi skirts or shorts, as I do here. Do keep in mind that you'll want to pair the wide-legged pants with a more fitted and across-the-shoulder piece to balance out the look and reveal more of your figure. A style that is more loose in nature will have you getting lost with a loose top and loose pants.

If you're considering the full sleeve style, go for a cute pair of cropped ankle-length slim pants. If not, consider shorts or a fitted pencil skirt.

The Key To Pulling Off The Off-The-Shoulder Trend

Remember the following rule: A fitted off-the-shoulder will work wonders with loose pieces, such as wide-legged pants or A-line skirts. A top that is more on the loose side will look great with fitted bottoms - that is shorts, skirts or your favorite denim.

Can Off-The-Shoulder Be Only Worn In The Summer?

No! Here's a fun styling tip for you: Experiment and go bold in the winter months by layering a great white tee or tank underneath!

As always, thank you for reading!
